Once upon a time, the top shelf in the display cabinet in city living rooms and salons was reserved for one's finest accessories, so that guests could see the status of the house. Being from the top shelf is special. Also in the universe of chili. The chilies from the top shelf are those also called superhots .

Superhots are of the species capsicum chinense, which has roots in Central America and the Caribbean, but is now mainly grown in Asia. The species is thin-skinned, so there is not much flesh on it, but there is plenty of heat in Habanero, Bhut Jolokia, Naga Jolokia, Trinidad Scorpion, Chocolate Scorpion, Carolina Reaper, Pepper X plus various official and unofficial hybrids, just think of Apollo.

BHUT JOLOKIA AND NAGA JOLOKIA

Superhots . Grown commercially mainly in the northeastern provinces of India. It was once in the Guinness World Records as the world's hottest chili with over a million Scoville Heat Units. Bhut Jolokia and Naga Jolokia are the original titles of the now popularly known Ghost chili. Ghost refers to a rumor that one's soul says goodbye and thanks if the chili is eaten. However, the rumor also says that the soul comes back.

Chocolate Bhut Jolokia is from the same family and has the same heat, but also has a chocolatey sweet aroma. Yellow Bhut Jolokia and White Bhut Jolokia are the chillies' milder but beautiful counterparts. White Bhut Jolokia is creamy white and has a distinct citrus aroma.

The Carolina Reaper has been officially the world's hottest chili for many years. Its test title was HP22B (Higher Power, pot 22, plant B). A wind force of 15 (over 2 million Scoville Heat Units). The Carolina Reaper came close to taking down Bubber. The chili is like barbed wire music without the music. The Carolina Reaper is a hybrid of a Habanero from the Caribbean and a Naga from Pakistan. Grown by Smokin Ed from South Carolina.

PEPPER X

From South Carolina and Smokin Ed there is also the new king chili Pepper X.
A Pepper X chili is a hybrid and is bred to have a maximum of capsaicin in the seed pod, seed ovule and seeds. In September 2023, Pepper X took the title of the hottest chili in the world, surpassing 3 million Scoville Heat Units.
